What will the operational hours of the site be? Working hours will be Monday to Friday 07:00 to 18:00. Quarrying will progress between 08.00 and 17.00. Quarrying will only take place during the winter months after year 5 although processing including crushing and grading may continue in the existing Barton quarry all year round.

How long will the quarry be operational?

The mineral extraction is planned for 15 years although this may become market dependable. Barton quarry already has planning permission until 2042 and we may be in a situation where minerals are extracted from the new quarry and stockpiled at Barton until processed right up until 2042.

Jobs

How many new jobs will be created? Sherburn Stone state that the new quarry will allow for the continuation of 2 jobs. The remaining development has the potential to provide further full time equivalent jobs. These are likely to include several part time or seasonal positions in the new shop, cafe and restaurant. This may have a diverse affect on existing jobs in retail establishments in the area which will offset any potential befit.

General

If this planning application is not successful can Sherburn Stone reapply for the development of the grounds? Yes a new planning application can be submitted for the development without the quarry with little additional cost as the preparation work has already been completed. Our objections are to the quarry element of this application, not to the refurbishment of the house or the grounds. Middleton Lodge already operates as a successful business in its own right as a conference centre and function venue. Another quarry that will permanently blight our environment as well as our live is not welcome. If money is needed to pay for refurbishment of the property, there are other commercial ways that might be considered.
