The Ecological Impact

Wildlife

family

Of importance is the impact on wildlife brought about by not only the quarrying but also the various elements of proposed construction work on the Middleton Lodge Estate. Whilst this has received attention within the planning application there are important aspects that have, possibly, not been covered in as detailed a format as they might.

The application infers that there will be no real impact on protected species. Such remedial/protection work that is likely to take place will probably not occur until initially some 10 years into the quarrying project. The effects of this are self explanatory – wildlife will be fending for itself in a hostile environment and could be lost to the area, as they compete for new territories elsewhere. The main creatures likely to be affected will be badgers, bats and birds but there will undoubtedly be others in the food chain similarly affected.
