The Ecological Impact
Limestone extraction is intended to continue over a 20 year period. This will prolong the period of loss of habitat and its resultant impact on the balance of nature in the area. There will be a loss of vegetation (grassland, mature trees, woodland and shrubs) for which the ecological impact has been assessed as neutral in the application – even though it will result in the removal of essential habitat for wildlife – how can they be correct? It is likely to be in excess of 20 years before the balance of nature really begins to redress the negative impact on the land brought about by man.
There is good ‘ecological value’ attaching to the land. A quarry is likely to do much damage to the ecological balance of Middleton Lodge Estate over a 20 year period or longer. This should not be allowed to happen make your feelings known now and object to this proposed ‘Blot on the Landscape’
