18 June 2008: Proposed concrete batching plant at Barton Quarry

Do you want to see more noise, dust and lorry movements from Barton Quarry - these are all a real possibility? Sherburn Stone Company Ltd have now submitted an application for a proposed concrete batching plant at Barton Quarry which is not an application for "planning permission", rather it is an application for "details reserved by Condition". A copy of the application can be viewed at onlineplanningregister.northyorks.gov.uk.

Both MTRA & BRA oppose an application of this nature which will so obviously have a major impact on our residents and our environment.

We encourage Barton and Middleton Tyas residents to visit the above website page and view the documents listed. You can make any comments on this case, so please write to Miss Rachel Pillar, Senior Development Control Officer (West Area) at NYCC or send an e-mail to: planning.control@northyorks.gov.uk. Your comments/objections should reach planning control by 8 July 2009.

18 June 2008: MEETING TAKES PLACE on 19th JUNE 2009 IN BARTON VILLAGE HALL

The NYCC Planning Committee meets to consider the NEW BARTON QUARRY on 30th June 2009. The proposed QUARRY WILL NOT: create new jobs nor is it needed by NYCC. The proposed Quarry WILL: probably affect property values; increase dust levels (prevailing westerlies will direct the dust to Barton!!); could affect our health or that of our vulnerable children; result in increased traffic through our villages (Sherburn Stone may be able to instruct their own drivers but can only request others to use the motorway (other quarry traffic already uses our villages - what change?); result in lost wildlife habitat; mean the loss of irreplaceable mature trees; see long hours of operation - blasting, vibration and dust with work continuing through to 2042.
