How to Object
- Environment - What dust levels can we expect? Sherburn Stone may be required to monitor dust levels. However monitoring dust levels does not prevent dust! The existing quarry already provides noticeable levels of dust. It appears to be in the main only processing material imported from other quarries. When the ‘NEW’ quarry comes onto line there will be a vast increase in dust and noise levels caused by blasting, actual quarrying, primary crushing, construction and traffic movements. The prevailing winds are westerly and Barton will be on the receiving end of these winds. How can we be sure that Sherburn Stone will manage the dust levels? We can't.
- Schools - Will this development affect schools? The nearest non residential building to the quarry is Middleton Tyas Primary School. Barton School is also close and under the influence of the prevailing winds. Both schools can potentially suffer from additional traffic noise and dust emitted from this development. Should we let our children's health be jeopardised?
- Property Values - What will this mean for my property value? Typically property values can fall by as much as 20%. Clearly this is dependant on the location of the property to the quarry workings and plant. Sometimes the threat (or 'blight') of an impending planning application can have a greater impact than an operational scheme.
